About Me
My name is Cath Giles and I seek your support for my election as your local independent councillor in Sugarloaf Ward in the forthcoming Nillumbik Shire Council Election on 22 October 2016. I plan to bring new focus, energy and action to your neighbourhood and Nillumbik.
Whether you are a new resident to Nillumbik or a 'lifetime local', we all have something in common - we are living where we love! The people and environment in our neighbourhoods create the sense of place and community that we are so fortunate to call home.
- I am married with three teenage children
- Live on a rural property outside Hurstbridge
- Have worked in the Tourism and Farming sectors
- Volunteered on a multitude of committees whilst raising family
- Understand fundamental budget control and delivering 'a lot from a little' through years managing committees, community projects and fund raising
- Am a keen horse rider, walker and casual cyclist
- Enjoy spending time with family and friends on the shared trails throughout Nillumbik and experiencing our quality, local attractions
I have spent over 25 years working with others to ensure that our beautiful green wedge of bush blocks, pastured properties and village communities remains the continuing story of Nillumbik. I have also enjoyed contributing to new aspects through developing shared recreation trails, promoting local tourism and land management education. The preservation of the rural activities that enrich our country living is important to me and something for which I will advocate strongly.
The experience I have gained working on many community and council committees means that council procedure is familiar to me, so I will be capable of dealing with any issues you may need addressed in the most effective way with result. I am committed to being available to residents and working together on the things that matter to many of us in Sugarloaf Ward and across the entire shire.
Please feel free to contact me so that we can have a conversation about what is important to you, your family, your club/s, your community, perhaps even your business. And do complete my online survey (last tab top right) to help me understand what is on your mind.
We need an efficient, responsive council with a keen focus on the needs of its residents, balanced management of our wonderful natural areas and a "How can we help you?" attitude.
